I dont want to survive, I want to LIVE!

Im going about doing some reasearch for theory and theres alot about connections out there. The Connection theory and Small World theories are really interesting...how many times a week do you find yourself exclaiming 'what a small world!'. It does seem that due to technology the world is getting smaller, and so people are becoming interocnnected and peoples social spheres are increasing.
Though this still brings me back to the physical connection thing. A lot of these social connections are based on the internet, in a digital/virtual/paralelle reality to the physical one. It is totally a part of our reality as a whole, but at the same time it is completely unlinked to our physical reality. Its not a bad thing. Ive never felt it was. The opportunity to keep in contact with people you once would have simply never been able to keep track of is a blessing of this technological age. Yet, as I have been saying, too much of a good thing can be bad. And what I am interested in is a) what happens when we become completely disconnected from our physical world and too engrossed in our parallel virtual realities?
and b) what can we do to keep our physical reality as exciting and interesting as this virtual one that is so diverse, fast, and instantly gratifying? How do we encourage ourselves to keep this physical relationship with our environment?

I watched Wall.E. the other day. And the reality portrayed there is just so sad and for me, terrifying.  The
There is a line that the captain says at a turning point in the film, he decides to take control of the situation and declares.
"I dont want to survive, I want to LIVE!"
This for me, really highlights the importance of the role of physical relationships and engagement in living a really fulfilling life. In the virtual world the humans inhabit on the BNL mothership, the body becomes a passive object, it has no purpose, no duty, and so what makes us human physically is left to deteriorate, all with the intent of making life 'easier' and so more enjoyable. Floating out in space, one has to wonder, what then, is the next stage for the 'human'? Do we become useless masses with this highly developed brain? The term 'vegatable' comes to mind, and Im pretty sure this is a state most people would be horrified to find themselves, or someone they know, to be in.
This reality protrayed on Wall.E. is indeed, a hyper-reality, a total extreme, but even so, things we couldnt dream of 20 years ago have been created and are now daily norms in our lives, so whos to say that these extremes arent possible or inevitable?
